"Ice Age: Continental Drift" is the fourth installment in "Ice Age," a computer-animated film series. The movie, which came out in 2012, was a continuation of the original story line created by computer animation producer and director Chris Wedge. In the movie, Manny, Diego, Sid and other members of their species try to get to a new land that has been discovered during a global warming event that has destroyed all life on Earth except for their kind. The cast includes Ray Romano who voices Manny's father Buck. Also included is Queen Latifah as the voice of Manny's mother Franny and Keke Palmer as Peaches. Jorge Rial is also featured as Buck's new son.Will Gluck (known for such movies as "Easy A" and "Friends with Benefits") directed the film, which was voiced by new voice actors. Some of the cast members include Sarah Jessica Parker, Queen Latifah, Ray Romano and more. Kristin Chenoweth also provides her voice talents for this film. Sid had a special appearance in this movie and had a different appearance than he did in the first three films. He appears to be shorter and less hairy than his previous appearances. He is also more sarcastic and has a better sense of humor. He was voiced by the same actor who voiced him in the original Ice Age.In North America, "Continental Drift" received a rating of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 97 reviews with an average rating of 5.9/10. Its consensus reads: "It may not have the warmth or hilarity of its predecessors, but Ice Age: Continental Drift is still a suitably peppy animated effort." Another survey system, Metacritic, gave the movie a 69%, based on 27 reviews indicating generally favorable reviews. The movie opened in theaters on June 20, 2012. It was projected to have the potential to earn over $100 million domestically in its opening weekend. Leading up to its release, "Continental Drift" was the subject of several controversies due to the departure of two original cast members, Ray Romano and John Leguizamo.At the box office in North America, "Continental Drift" earned $68.6 million during its opening weekend playing in 3,773 theaters at an average of $19,485 per theater ranking #1 at the box office. The film ended up grossing $191 million domestically which made it a moderate success when compared to other animated films that were released around that time period. The movie opened in the UK on July 27, 2012. It raked in £2.7 million during its opening week, at #3 at the box office. The film finally made it to #1 at the box office for two days before being knocked off the top spot by "The Dark Knight Rises". "Continental Drift" ended up making £9.5 million during its run in the UK which is substantially less than all of the other three movies in the series bar "", which took £18 million during its run in that territory.The movie was released on DVD on November 6, 2012. It contained 2 discs containing special features including early development on Sid’s backstory and some deleted scenes.
